The Manhattan OKC

The Manhattan OKC

Oklahoma City's Downton has a new kid on the block, The Manhattan OKC. Brainchild of Chef Bruce Rinehart, The Manhattan OKC offers up a fresh take on the 'happy hour' watering hole. Not only can you order a quality cocktail, but you can also order up one of several mouth watering dishes.

Upon hearing about the opening of The Manhattan OKC I must admit that I was overly excited. Every time that I passed the location and saw the coming soon signs in the window I couldn't help but imagine what the place would look like and the impact this would have on the our downtown area. Slowly but surely, the process remained steady. The awning went up, then the logos went up on the windows, furniture went in and so on. Finally, the day came for the grand opening.

Once inside I quickly felt that it was worth the wait, the design and layout of the space set a relaxed tone. I quickly grabbed a menu and gave it a once over. Everything sounded good, I couldn't decide what to try first. I then decided to order a drink. What better then to order the drink the place is named after right? To my surprise there were a few to choose from. There is The Classic Manhattan, (Old Overholt Rye, Martini & Rossi Vermouth, Angostura Bitters & Maraschino cherry), The Next Level Manhattan, (Rittenhouse Rye, Dolin Vermouth, Angostura Bitters & Bordeaux cherry) and finally The Ultimate Manhattan, (Bulleit Rye, Vya Vermouth, Angostura Bitters & Luxardo cherry).

Again, I couldn't decide so I tried them all. Let me first say that all three were very well made Manhattans, but The Ultimate Manhattan was undeniable. Hands down it's the best Manhattan that I've ever had anywhere. As you can imagine, This set high expectations for my food order. Now that I had the chance to 'wet my whistle', I was back at the menu to make my decision. I decided on Zach’s House Cured Pastrami & Pasta Salad.

I could smell it before the waitress even brought it out. Once the plate made it to my table I knew I had made a good choice. House cured pastrami served warm on sourdough with gruyere cheese & whole grain mustard sauce....mmmmm. The flavors of the pastrami, gruyere and mustard sauce is an excellent combo of flavors and paired well with my Ultimate Manhattan.  I finished my meal and was already anticipating my return and what I would order on my next visit. Until then I'll miss that cozy happy hour spot in downtown Oklahoma City.
